Day 1 - Stockholm Arrival

Saturday, September 1st, 2018

View over StockholmWelcome aboard! We begin our cruise in Stockholm’s stunning archipelago, nestled where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic. Take in this amazing city spread over 14 islands, and its 13th-century Gamla Stan (Old Town) with German influenced architecture. Consider a trip to the Vasa Museum to see the amazingly preserved 17th-century ship. Or, opt to visit Skokloster Castle in the Swedish countryside.

Day 2 - Stockholm

Sunday, September 2nd, 2018

Vasa Museum exteriorStockholm, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Our included panoramic tour takes in the highlights. Pass the medieval Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town and the city’s historic centre. See the incredible array of architectural styles in the public buildings. View the massive baroque Stockholm Palace, the city’s birthplace; the Parliament House, a lovely neoclassical and baroque revival building; the Renaissance-style National Museum; and the Art Nouveau Royal Dramatic Theater. We also pass the scenic Strandvägen waterfront where we enjoy some free time before returning to our ship.

Day 3 - Helsinki Finland

Monday, September 3rd, 2018

Sibelius Momument 2Today an included excursion shows the best of Helsinki, Finland’s elegant capital known as the “White City of the North”. See the colourful Market Square, the magnificent Eastern Orthodox Uspenski Cathedral and pass the docked icebreaker fleet that keeps wintertime harbour traffic flowing. In Senate Square, admire the massive Helsinki Cathedral, the Parliament buildings and the National Museum of Finland, with its romantic bell tower. Drive by the 1952 Olympic Stadium, the Opera House, and explore the unique Temppeliaukio Kirkko (Rock Church), carved into a block of underground granite beneath a domed copper roof.

Day 4 - St. Petersburg Russia

Tuesday, September 4th, 2018

Cathedral of St. IsaacFor the next two days we have the joy of exploring majestic St. Petersburg. Today our comprehensive tour, takes us for photos at St. Isaac’s Square and the gold dome of St. Isaac’s Cathedral. Past the sprawling Palace Square and its grand Winter Palace, now the Hermitage Museum. Cross the Neva River, to admire the Peter and Paul Fortress, the city’s first defensive edifice. Within its walls, view the gold-hued Peter and Paul Cathedral and its soaring spire. After passing the Museum of Artillery, we stop for photos at the Church of Our Saviour on Spilled Blood. This onion-domed decorative memorial to the assassinated emperor Alexander II is the personification of splendid Russian ecclesiastical architecture. We also see Russia’s famous shop-lined street, Nevsky Prospekt. Finally, we drive past Senate Square, known also as Decembrist Square, with its bronze horseman statue of Peter the Great.

Day 5 - St. Petersburg

Peterhof Palace and fountainsAwake in marvelous St. Petersburg for a second day of exploration! Today we can choose to return to the city for a more detailed look at the wonders on display, or journey into the countryside to visit the magnificent summer palaces of the Tzars of Russia.

Day 6 - Tallinn Estonia

Thursday, September 6th, 2018

Tallinn Old Town SquareTallinn is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS), with picturesque cobblestone streets, red rooftops and beautiful views of the sea. A scenic drive takes us past the medieval town wall, the National Opera and Freedom Square. At Toompea, or Dome Hill, we enjoy a gentle stroll along cobblestone lanes past the Estonian Parliament, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and St. Mary’s Cathedral. We descend into Lower Town to explore the narrow 13th-century streets. Pass the Great Guild House, House of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads, Church of the Holy Spirit and two 15th-century gems: the Town Council’s Apothecary and the Town Hall.

Day 7 - Cruise the Baltic Sea

WintergardenToday is a day to relax aboard our ship. Learn more about our upcoming destinations during an intriguing port talk, or explore our ship. Perhaps unwind in The spa, where we can enjoy the snow grotto and sauna, or take a dip in the infinity pool. Tonight, try a regional specialty in the restaurant, or take in a recent movie in one of the three theatres, two indoor and one under the stars at the main pool. What a delightful way to end a peaceful day!

Day 8 - Gdansk Poland

Saturday, September 8th, 2018

Teutonic Knights CastleOne of the wealthiest cities in the Hanseatic League, Gdańsk was extensively damaged during World War II, but has been remarkably restored. After a short drive with a local guide, we arrive at the city’s Oliwa Cathedral. At Solidarity Square, we see the famous Gate No. 2 of the Gdańsk Lenin Shipyard. On our own, we may indulge in the delicious traditional pierogi dumplings, or a glass of gold-flecked Goldwasser, a liqueur created in the 16th-century. Or, on an optional tour, explore the medieval Teutonic stronghold of Malbork Castle (WHS).

Day 9 - Warnemunde (Berlin) Germany

Sunday, September 9th, 2018

Museum IslandWarnemünde is a German port town on the Baltic Sea, near Rostock. From here, we may take the included transfer through the scenic countryside of the Mecklenburg region to Germany’s historic capital, Berlin. Upon arrival, we have the opportunity to explore and discover at our own pace the major sights such as the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie. Or, if we prefer not to venture too far, we may tour the Hanseatic city of Rostock and enjoy a sample of beer in a brewery’s tasting room.

Day 10 - Copenhagen Denmark

Little Mermaid CloseupOriginally a Viking fishing village founded in the 10th century, the Danish capital boasts over 850 years of history. During our guided panoramic tour, we drive by City Hall Square, and see the famous Tivoli Gardens founded in 1843 - the world’s second oldest amusement park. On the island of Slotsholmen, view Christiansborg Palace, home to the Danish Parliament and the Supreme Court. See the brightly colored houses of Nyhavn (New Harbour), once home to Hans Christian Andersen. We continue past Amalienborg Palace, the royal winter residence; Rosenborg Castle, home to the Danish Crown Jewels; and The Little Mermaid statue serenely sitting in the harbour at Langelinie.

Day 11 - Alborg Denmark

Aalborg Town HallAlborg is another historic city founded by the Vikings in the late 900's. Spend the morning strolling along to Nytorv (New Square) to see the Renaissance style Jens Bang’s House, the baroque Town Hall, and the charming 14th-century Budolfi Church. Take in the lively Jomfru Ane Gade, a street lined with trendy cafés and restaurants. Or, opt for a tour led by a local chef to taste traditional aquavit, a herb-infused spirit distilled here since the 15th century.

Day 12 - Stavanger Norway

overviewWe become acquainted with Stavanger and its beautifully preserved Old Town on an included tour. From our berth right in the heart of town, we can walk with ease to Old (Gamle) Stavanger. In this attractive pedestrian district, we wander the cobblestone streets admiring the best kept wooden houses in Northern Europe, protected by a conservancy. We also visit the Norwegian Petroleum Museum. Browse the fascinating exhibits about geology, technology and harnessing the power of oil. After, we may linger in Stavanger at our leisure and return the short distance to the ship at our own pace. While ashore, don’t forget to indulge in waffles with cream and sweet jams!

Day 13 - Eidfjord Norway

scenic viewWe cruise through breathtaking fjords into the village of Eidfjord, nestled in the heart of one of Norway’s most scenic regions. Here we may ascend Europe’s largest mountain plateau, Hardangervidda, for sweeping views. We can also marvel at the stupendous 550-foot drop of the Vøringsfossen waterfall into the cavernous Måbødalen canyon. Alternatively, we can choose to visit the expansive fruit orchards of Lofthus, growing apples and delectable cherries.

Day 14 - Bergen Norway

Friday, September 14th, 2018

Bergen Harbour ViewEncircled by majestic mountains, fjords and glaciers, Bergen was home to Viking sagas. Our ship is docked next to Bryggen wharf (WHS). See the beautiful 18th-century wooden houses, and visit the Hanseatic Museum on the included tour. Or, we may choose to take an optional excursion to Troldhaugen, the home of Norway’s famous composer Edvard Grieg.

Day 15 - Bergen - Return Home

Today we depart our ship in Bergen, and make our way home with outstanding stories, and beautiful mementos from our 'Viking' adventure.
