Join us on a wonderful 12-day journey through four fascinating countries; framed by glorious hotel stays in lakeside Zürich with its stunning views of the Swiss Alps, and elegant Paris with its timeless landmarks. Cruise along the Rhine and Moselle Rivers past ancient castles and lush vineyards, explore Roman footprints in Trier, ascend the legendary Lorelei Rock and stroll the charming medieval lanes of Cochem, Mainz and Bernkastel. Day 1 - Departure Day

Our exciting journey begins as we board our flight for Zurich, Switzerland.

Day 2 - Arrive Zurich

Saturday, September 30th, 2017

Train Crossing BridgeWelcome to Zürich, Switzerland’s largest city and often cited as one of Europe’s most livable places. We are transferred from the Zürich airport to our hotel where we will stay for two nights.

Day 3 - Zurich Sightseeing

Sunday, October 1st, 2017

Switzerland Lake Scenery Today, we will discover Zürich during a city walk. Admire the distant snow-capped Alps as they tower above the lake and cast their reflection into the serene waters. Founded by Charlemagne, see the twin-spired Grossmünster and admire its stained-glass windows by Augusto Giacometti. From across the Limatt River view the Fraumünster with its distinctive green spire, and where Marc Chagall created five windows of the abbey’s choir. After, we take a scenic boat ride on Lake Zürich.

Day 4 - Zurich to Basel- embark ship

Monday, October 2nd, 2017

Basel at NightAfter breakfast, we transfer to Basel, where Switzerland, France and Germany meet. We get acquainted with the Market Square guild houses of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque splendor. Then we have time to browse through the Art Museum of Basel before embarking our ship in time for dinner.

Day 5 - Strasbourg

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017

Historic Cetre Grand ileWe visit Strasbourg today, the cultural center of France’s Alsace region. See the well preserved Old Town or 'Petit France', enclosed on all sides by the little Ill River. Visit the Cathedral and stroll the cobblestone streets lined with half-timbered houses intersected by picturesque canals. Later, you may choose to join an optional excursion to sample Alsatian wine!

Day 6 - Speyer

Wednesday, October 4th, 2017

Speyer CathedralToday we explore the quiet German town of Speyer, on the west bank of the Rhine. We will visit its stunning Romanesque imperial cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS). It is the burial place of eight emperors including some of the most famous Holy Roman Emperors. Stroll Speyer’s charming, shop-lined main street and see the impressive clock tower of its Altpörtel, the Old Town Gate.

Day 7 - Mainz

Thursday, October 5th, 2017

Gutenberg Memorial in MainzToday we arrive in Mainz, in the heart of the Rhine wine region. We visit St. Martin's Cathedral where its six towers rise above the roofs of the half-timbered houses in the Old Town. We also browse through the Gutenberg Museum, dedicated to the inventor of movable type and book printing. The collection includes many beautiful books and fascinating printing technologies, including a replica of Gutenberg’s workshop.

Day 8 - Middle Rhine-Sankt Goar

Friday, October 6th, 2017

Rhine River SceneryThis morning we sail through the glorious Middle Rhine Valley (WHS), passing through the Rhine Gorge and stopping in the charming town of Sankt Goar. See Rheinfels Castle, the largest castle on the Rhine. Then ascend to the top of riverside Lorelei Rock which marks the river’s narrowest point, and is named for a local legend about a maiden who lured sailors to their doom with her sirens song.

Day 9 - Cochem

Saturday, October 7th, 2017

Cochem Castle & TownAfter breakfast we enjoy a tour of the quaint town of Cochem, set in the heart of the wine growing area of the Moselle Valley. We see the city's medieval town gate, the market place and the half-timbered buildings. We will stop at a local winery for a tour and tasting before returning to the ship to continue cruising the Moselle.

Day 10 - Bernkastel - Trier

Sunday, October 8th, 2017

Moselle River Scenery We dock in Bernkastel this morning, one of the Moselle’s most beloved medieval villages and a thriving wine centre. You may wish to join an optional wine-tasting excursion during our time here. Later, we continue cruising to Germany’s oldest city Trier, set on the banks of the Moselle River. See the wonderfully preserved Roman Porta Nigra gate, Trier Cathedral, and the Church of Our Lady. We remain docked overnight.

Day 11 - Trier - Luxembourg- Paris

Monday, October 9th, 2017

City SceneWe disembark our ship this morning and are taken by coach to Paris, France. On the way we stop to see the city of Luxembourg on a guided tour, and visit the Luxembourg American Cemetery. We continue to Paris and check into our hotel.

Day 12 - Paris City Tour

Tuesday, October 10th, 2017

Eiffel Tower, ParisAfter breakfast this morning we are taken on a guided tour of Paris (WHS) which will include seeing the Eiffel Tower, the Latin Quarter, the Cathedral of Notre Dame; and driving along the Champs Elysee past the Arc de Triomphe to the world famous Louvre. The rest of the day is free to discover more of Paris on our own. Perhaps visit a museum, historic Montmartre, or take a moonlit cruise along the Seine.

Day 13 - Return home

Wednesday, October 11th, 2017

This morning we are taken to the airport for our flight home, where family and friends are waiting to hear all about our wonderful river cruise.
