Day 1 - Rome - Board Cruise Ship

Rome ForumToday we arrive in Rome, the Eternal City. This is the gateway to the port of Civitavecchia which has served as Rome's seaport since the 13th century. Built by emperor Trajan as a pleasure villa the harbour fortifications were designed by Bernini and Michelangelo. We settle into our staterooms and enjoy dinner onboard the Crown Princess.

Day 2 - Salerno Italy

harbour viewInhabited since antiquity, Salerno found its place as a Roman colony in 197 B.C. After the fall of Rome, a who's who of European kingdoms conquered the city including the Goths, the Byzantines and the Lombards. Feel the centuries unfold on a guided walk through the amazing cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, or soak up the scenery with a cruise along the dazzling Amalfi Coast.

Day 3 - At Sea

DancingWe spend a relaxing day at sea today. This gives us an opportunity to learn more about the ship and the variety of activities available while onboard. There are cooking demonstrations, dance classes, trivia contests and a range of enrichment programs. Encounters with Discovery at SEA™ is a speaker series given by experts with insights into the places we visit.

Day 4 - Kotor Montenegro

Kotor BayToday we are tendered into Kotor Montenegro a World Heritage Site (WHS). The port itself is a medieval gem with narrow, asymmetrical streets lined with ancient stone houses, old palaces, and churches dating from the 12th century. The Maritime Museum chronicles Kotor's rich naval history.

Day 5 - Corfu Greece

Corfu Greece 640The lush and verdant island of Corfu lies in the Ionian Sea, midway between Greece and Italy. The island has been ruled by the Romans, the Venetians, the French and the English. Corfu Town boasts fortresses bearing the insignia of the Venetian Republic. A lavish Esplanade planted with palms and eucalyptus leads to the English cricket pitch. The island offers some of the finest coastal scenery in the entire Mediterranean.

Day 6 - Crete (Chania) Greece

ChaniaChania is a centuries-old mix of Minoan myths, well-preserved Venetian mansions, a mesmerizing Old Town with labyrinthine passageways, and the atmospheric Kastelli Hill - once the site of a Roman acropolis. But, Chania may be best known as the gateway to the breathtaking 4,000 year-old Minoan ruins at Knossos, home of the legendary King Minos and the part man and part bull creature known as the Minotaur. In this area you'll find picturesque villages, breathtaking views and architectural wonders.

Day 7 - Mykonos Greece

Sunset in MykonosThanks to its proximity to the mainland, Mykonos was one of the first Greek islands to become an international travel destination. During the late '60s and early '70s, it was known as the place for the rich to play. The island's famous windmills are found just south of the waterfront. The neighboring island of Delos, in classical mythology, was the birthplace of Apollo and his twin sister Artemis. Travellers to Delos can stroll among the island's vast ruins, which include three temples consecrated to the Sun God, and the famed Lions Walk.

Day 8 - Athens (Piraeus) Greece

Athens AcropolisFor over two millennia, the port city of Piraeus has been the main entry for Athens - the cradle of Western civilization. Atop the Acropolis, the Parthenon overlooks the modern city. The Plaka lies under the slopes of the Acropolis and features Athens' oldest district with wonderful boutiques, cafes and tavernas. Dominating the centre of Athens and paying homage to Zeus is the Temple of Olympian Zeus. It is the largest temple in antiquity with fifteen of its majestic Corinthian columns still standing. The Old Olympic Stadium is built on the foundations of a 4th-century BC arena which hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 and was used in the 2004 Olympics. World-class collections can be seen at the Museum of the City of Athens, the Byzantine & Christian Museum, the Museum of Cycladic Art, the National Archaeological Museum, Benaki and Acropolis Museums.

Day 9 - Santorini Greece

Santorini Church BellsOn the island of Santorini, the Santorini Crater or ‘caldera’, was created by a volcanic eruption which caused the centre of the island to implode into the sea. The island's capital of Fira is perched on the edge of a dramatic cliff and offers outstanding views of the submerged volcano. At the northern tip lies the charming Greek village of Oia, known for its picturesque architecture including blue-domed churches. The prehistoric Museum is a treasure trove of history and culture, including an excellent collection of artifacts from the archeological site of Akotiri also known as Santorini's "Pompeii." This region is famous for world-class wines and unique vinification methods. Visit some of the world's oldest vineyards and learn how the micro-climate and rich volcanic soil produces full-bodied bouquets.

Day 11 - Kotor Montenegro

Kotor BayKotor lies at the head of Boka Bay. Bordered by towering limestone cliffs, the winding bay is actually Southern Europe's longest and most dramatic fjord. Kotor is also your gateway to the cultural and scenic wonders of Montenegro, from the old royal capital at Cetinje to the marshes and wildlife of Lake Skadar National Park.

Day 12 - Messina Sicily

overviewMessina has played a major role in European history since its founding as a Greek colony in the 8th century BC. During the Roman Empire, the city was a major port and commercial center, then during the Middle Ages it was a major port of departure for Crusaders. History left scars: a massive earthquake leveled much of the city in 1908 and the World War II campaign for Sicily caused immense devastation. Yet, from that destruction some historic treasures remained intact, including the 12th-century Annunziata dei Catalani Church.

Mount VesuviusItaly's third-largest city, Naples is a bustling metropolis famed for pizza, stately buildings, crowded streets and notoriously bad traffic. Naples is also the gateway to the Isle of Capri, the fabled Amalfi Coast and the ruins of Pompeii which was buried in ash by the cataclysmic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Day 15 - Barcelona Spain - Return home

Sagrada FamiliaEarly this morning we arrive at our dock in Barcelona Spain and disembark the ship. We leave with fond memories of the timeless treasures encountered along the Adriatic and Aegean Seas.
