Buenos Aires - July 9 AvenueWelcome to Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. After arrival procedures we transfer to the beautiful Emerald Princess and settle into our staterooms. One of the pleasures of Buenos Aires is simply absorbing its charm and flavor, from Parisian-style ‘confiterias’ (cafés) to the city's popular tango clubs, the ‘Paris of the South’ is proud of its diverse European heritage.

Day 3 - Buenos Aires

Fiesta Gaucho Day Founded in the early 16th century, Buenos Aires has transformed from a colonial port into a cosmopolitan metropolis. Here is a city where we may visit the elegant Colon Theater - one of the world's great opera houses which stands in counterpoint to La Boca, the working class barrios which gave birth to the tango. Tour Recoleta Cemetery - burial place of showgirl turned First Lady, Evita Peron; or travel to the Pampas - Argentina's rolling plains to visit an ‘estancia’. Here, we may savor Argentinian barbecue and enjoy a show of music, dance, and gaucho-style horsemanship.

Day 4 - Punta del Este Uruguay

TheHandSculpturePunta del Este, or the Peninsula of the East, is a charming area known for its beautiful beaches and famous seaside resorts. These bustling resorts play host to international film festivals and yachting events. Additionally, Punta del Este showcases cultural attractions and museums. Photograph the open-air art collection and iconic ‘The Hand’ sculpture at Brava Beach, or admire an impressive collection of Spanish and Latin American sculptures and paintings, including works by Salvador Dali, at the Ralli Museum. For those with a sense of fun, traverse La Barra - the unique undulating bridge which is like riding a mini rollercoaster!

Day 6 - Puerto Madryn Argentina

harbour viewFleeing the economic devastation of England's Industrial Revolution, Welsh settlers led by Viscount Madryn sailed for Patagonia, founding the small city of Puerto Madryn in 1865. In the old Welsh town of Gaiman see traditional Welsh tea houses. Visit Punta Tombo National Reserve to witness awe-inspiring Magellanic penguins, or Peninsula Valdes - a UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS) and protected nature reserve for seals and sea lions, as well as whales, penguins and a variety of birds. The Paleontology Museum exhibits significant flora and fauna fossil samples from the Argentine Patagonia.

Day 8 - Falkland Islands (Stanley)

StanleyChurchToday we arrive to Port Stanley, the Capital of the Falkland Islands since 1845. The Falklands have long served as a way station for ships, particularly whalers bound to and from Cape Horn. Enjoy optional visits, such as the Anglican Christ Church Cathedral - the southernmost cathedral in the world. This national treasure is built from stone and brick and boasts on its grounds, a renowned arch constructed of giant blue whale jawbones. The tiny inlet of Bluff Cove features a Falkland Island museum. Or, watch the very agile penguins called ‘rockhoppers’ adeptly hop from their perch on the craggy, rocky cliffs into the water looking for food, then hopping back up the rocks to feed their young.

Day 9 - Cape Horn Scenic Cruising

CapeHornMonumentLocated on Chile's Isla Hornos in the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, Cape Horn is widely considered to be the southernmost tip of South America. Grab your camera and a great seat on deck to cruise the Patagonian channels with signature views of some of nature's most exciting creations. These include azure vistas of lesser known fjords, unusual rock formations with deep grooves and granite cliffs covered in trees, as well as the world famous lighthouses of Cape Horn.

Day 10 - Ushuaia Argentina

village viewUshuaia is one of two main cities on the island territory of Tierra del Fuego. Museo Maritimo explores the maritime history collection of the Argentine Navy, and exhibits of Antarctic discovery and research. It's housed in a National Historical Monument that was the Old Prison of Ushuaia. The city was, in its beginnings, a penal colony. Magellan called it Tierra del Fuego, ‘the Land of Fire’, having seen flames rising from the darkened islands. See Andean Condors and the rugged beauty of Tierra del Fuego National Park, or step aboard the southernmost railway in the world on a scenic heritage train ride through the breathtaking scenery of the park.

Day 11 - Punta Arenas Chile

TownPunta Arenas lies atop rolling hills, looking out over the Strait of Magellan. In the days before the Panama Canal, this was a major port as ships plied the waters of Cape Horn. From the original name "Sandy Point," this southernmost capital city in Chile had its humble beginnings as a sparse penal colony near the Straits of Magellan. Today, Punta Arenas is highly regarded given its strategic location as a gateway to the Antarctic Peninsula.

PuertoVarasOrsonoPuerto Montt is the gateway to Chile's magnificent Lake District. Here, snow-capped volcanoes gaze down on alpine valleys nestled among low hills. Glaciers carved out this terrain, leaving the jewel-like lakes in their wake. The Lake District was a magnet for German immigrants, and their legacy can be seen today in the gabled homes and manicured rose gardens of Puerto Varas. For a simple introduction to the city, walk along its waterfront road lined with tempting artisan's stalls and small cafés.
